The following is a brief summary of our countries in alphabetical order:
Tchibo/Eduscho launched in Austria in 1969. Today, the Vienna-based Eduscho Austria is the market leader with its two brands Tchibo and Eduscho, winning over consumers with its extensive range of roasted coffee, Non Food products and coffee bars. Products are distributed via about 150 Tchibo shops, high street shops and supermarkets, as well as the Internet.
In 1991 Tchibo entered the market in the former Czechoslovakia and became the first international coffee vendor to quickly increase its brand awareness. Today, Tchibo leads the roasted coffee market with its international Tchibo brand and the local Jihlavanka brand. Food and Non Food products are sold in Tchibo shops and supermarket depots. In addition, Tchibo Coffee Service supplies hotels, restaurants and offices with coffee and coffee products.
In the UK, Tchibo Coffee Service has grown into a lucrative branch of the Tchibo group.
Tchibo established its first Hungarian office in Budapest in 1991. Since then, its coffee has been distributed nationwide through a network of retail partners. The takeover of Eduscho in 1997 raised Tchibo to the marketleading position in Hungary. Since then, three shops have been opened in Hungary. A decision on whether to open further locations will be made by the end of the year.
Tchibo launched in Poland in 1992 and soon established an excellent market position thanks to a rapid and resolute expansion of its sales network. After successfully operating for two years on the Polish market, Tchibo opened its own coffeeroasting plant in Marki in 1994. In 1999, Gala was introduced to the Polish market as a second brand. To date, over 30 Tchibo shops have opened throughout the country. High street shops and supermarkets sell Tchibo products based on a Depot concept. Tchibo Coffee Service has also been supplying hotels and offices with coffee and coffee products since 1994. Non Food products and coffee have been available through the Tchibo online shop since January 2008.
Tchibo entered the market in this country between Transylvania and the Carpathian Mountains in 2000, opening a Tchibo office in its capital, Bucharest, in 2001. Its nationwide distribution is carried out through retail partners. Today, Tchibo has a presence in all roasted and instant coffee market segments, with coffee blends customised for national tastes.
Tchibo opened its first Russian branch in St. Petersburg in 1994, followed a year later, by a second office in Moscow. Tchibo attained a high level of brand recognition in Russia within a few years, and developed into one of the leading coffee vendors. Building on this success, business operations in the other CIS countries are being continually expanded.
In 1991 Tchibo became the first international coffee vendor to enter the market in the former Czechoslovakia. By the time the country was partitioned, Tchibo had already become the market leader. When the two countries split, Tchibo opened an office in Bratislava in 1993, which was later moved to Prague. Since that time, Tchibo coffee has been sold though retail and wholesale partners. The Eduscho brand has been available in Slovakia since 1998.
In 2001 Tchibo entered the German-speaking Swiss market via its direct-to-customer business. The Tchibo Non Food Range was initially offered in Switzerland on the Internet and through the catalogue. In 2002 Tchibo opened its first shops in Lucerne, Winterthur and Basel. These and other shops offer Swiss customers the Tchibo three-in-one concept.
In 2006 the company entered the Turkish market by opening its first Turkish Tchibo shop in Europe’s largest shopping mall, Istanbul Cehavir. Following a successful market entry, distribution was swiftly expanded to over 30 Turkish shops. Further shop locations offering Tchibo’s three-in-one system are in planning.
