Since 1949, Tchibo has been passionate about offering its customers the best quality coffees! Our stated aim of offering the very best quality requires us to take a great deal of care along the entire value-adding chain, with the selection of coffee beans in the countries of origin, with transportation, with our coffee roasting and finally with packaging. For us, quality doesn’t just mean the sensory characteristics of the coffee, but ecological and social requirements too.


The sensory or product-related quality aspects - in other words the taste, aroma and colour - are basic conditions for our coffee assortment. We have started to supplement these aspects with the social and environmental requirements we need to take into consideration. Our vision is to only offer contemporary coffee in the long term. This means we only intend to purchase raw coffee from coffee farms which meet, as a minimum, the requirements of the 4C standard, or more demanding internationally recognised standards such as Rainforest Alliance Certified™, Fairtrade or Bio (organic) standard. The next specific targets we have set ourselves are increasing the share of contemporary coffee qualities from 6% of our purchasing quantity in 2008 to 12% in 2010 and then raising this to 25% by 2015.
