Hamburg, 11 April 2016 – The Supervisory Board of Tchibo GmbH has appointed Thomas Linemayr (55) as its future CEO. Following the handover process, Thomas Linemayr will take over all of Dr Markus Conrad’s tasks by no later than January 2nd, 2017.

Thomas Linemayr comes to Tchibo from the Lindt & Sprüngli Group, where he has spent the past 17 years strongly growing the US business as CEO, and turned LINDT into one of the strongest brands in the world’s largest chocolate market. Since 2013, Thomas Linemayr has also been a member of the Extended Group Management of Lindt & Sprüngli Group. In all, Thomas Linemayr has worked for the Swiss premium chocolate manufacturer for the past 21 years. The business graduate and sales and marketing specialist began his career at Yves Rocher and subsequently changed to Johnson & Johnson. A native of Austria, Linemayr is married and has two adult sons.

“Thomas Linemayr is an experienced business leader and acknowledged sales and marketing expert,” says Michael Herz, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Tchibo GmbH and representative of the owning families. “He will advance the course, set by his predecessor, of resolutely restructuring the Tchibo business model, and will contribute his own ideas especially in matters of internationalization.”

"I look forward to the challenging task of leading Tchibo to lead to further, sustainable growth. My work will centre on the opportunities of the multi-channel system and on strengthening the Tchibo brand. My experience in developing new markets and expanding successful business models will help me in this,” comments Linemayr.

"I am delighted that we have won Thomas Linemayr as my successor at Tchibo. His experience in building, developing and leading successful premium brands and his international background will enrich Tchibo and lend important new impetus to the further development of Tchibo. In the coming months we will have sufficient time for a comprehensive handover, so as to ensure continuity and reliability for our customers, business partners, and employees," underlines the outgoing CEO, Dr Markus Conrad.

Dr Markus Conrad has worked for the Herz family’s companies for a total of 27 years as Managing Partner of Libri GmbH, and as Chairman of the Board of Tchibo GmbH. Dr Conrad will remain associated with the group as a member of maxingvest and the family council. “Our sincere thanks go to Dr Markus Conrad, who has successfully developed Tchibo over the past eleven years. We look forward to continuing to work with him,” says Michael Herz.
