Tchibo calls for implementation of EUDR

Hamburg,

Tchibo and other companies speak out against association demands to amend the EU deforestation regulation

Tchibo takes a clear stance on the current letter from several associations on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). What companies really need now is predictability and legal certainty instead of further postponement.

Our position on the EUDR

Tchibo is clearly against further amendments to the EU deforestation regulation that would require a new legislative process. Some associations, including the German Coffee Association, had recently called for this. Such changes would inevitably lead to prolonged uncertainty for all parties involved and result in high costs.

"What companies and supply chains urgently need now is legal certainty and stability," emphasises Pablo von Waldenfels, Director of Corporate Responsibility at Tchibo. In addition, the discussion on due diligence obligations is distracting from the actual priorities to relieve the German economy, namely low energy costs, fast planning and approval procedures, more speed in digitalisation and investment in infrastructure.

On 11 June 2025, Tchibo, together with well-known companies, including those from the coffee sector, appealed to the BMEHL not to make any further adjustments to the EU Deforestation Regulation.
