Non Food Packaging
Material reduction
We're reducing the materials we use: To avoid and reduce packaging, our packaging developers examine each product—both non-food and coffee—and assess how much packaging it requires for protection. In 2020, as a packaging reduction measure, we eliminated plastic bags for textile products. By using new cardboard packaging, we now save 30 million plastic bags every year. In 2021, we further reduced packaging for many non-food items. For example, by reducing the size of the packaging for socks, we can save up to 50% cardboard.

Recyclability
To ensure the materials can be reused, we are continuously improving the recyclability of our packaging. For non-food items, 98% of the packaging is already recyclable. Examples of non-recyclable packaging that we are still working on include cushioning materials such as Styrofoam for protecting furniture and packaging for our jewelry.

Material selection
We use materials from certified, responsible sources: We rely on materials from certified sustainable sources, such as cardboard certified according to the criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®). We are also gradually increasing our use of recycled materials. This applies to both larger packaging, such as our shipping bag, which is made from at least 80% recycled plastic waste, and smaller packaging components, such as the elastic bands in our textile packaging, which have contained recycled material since 2021.
