Climate protection

Climate change poses major challenges for companies around the world. The effects are already being felt in supply chains in particular: flooding and extreme weather conditions are threatening the cultivation of essential raw materials such as coffee, cotton and wood. As a family business, Tchibo is aware of its responsibility. Climate protection is about cultivation and production as well as the transportation of our products and the impact on the climate caused by CO2 emissions from administration, warehouses, stores and roasting plants.

Validation of climate targets through the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)

By setting science-based climate targets, which have also been validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), the company aims to make its contribution to significantly reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. By 2030, the company aims to reduce its direct greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1 + Scope 2) by 42% compared to 2022. A reduction of 30.3% is targeted for agricultural supply chains (Scope 3, in particular coffee cultivation), while a reduction of 25% is planned for non-agricultural supply chains - including consumer goods and packaging. The long-term goal is to achieve net-zero emissions across the entire value chain by 2045. The Science Based Targets Initiative has confirmed that the new Tchibo climate targets are in line with the 1.5 degree target of the Paris Climate Agreement and meet the SBTi net zero standard. With the validation by the Science Based Targets Initiative, Tchibo is demonstrably committed to sustainable and science-based climate protection.

Climate protection along the entire supply chain

Tchibo is focusing on specific measures that have been defined in roadmaps for the individual business areas in order to achieve the climate targets. The major key initiatives include:
