Climate resilient coffee farming: Together with Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (NKG) Vietnam, we are supporting up to 4000 smallholder coffee producers in Dak Lak and Gia Lai. Intercropping strengthens both environmental sustainability and farmer livelihoods.

The coffee comes from the Lempira and Ocotepeque regions of Honduras. There, the coffee creates opportunities and prospects for local children: three daycare projects provide care and offer spaces for learning and development while their parents harvest the coffee.

As part of World Coffee Research, Dr. Ingo Lantz, member of the WCR Research Advisory Committee and Tchibo’s Director of Research & Development, visited El Salvador to monitor progress in the coffee breeding program firsthand and to taste new climate-resilient coffee varieties.

A unique flavor profile from Brazil and Tanzania, featuring delicious coffees from two Tchibo farms: Machare Farm in Tanzania and Ipanema Farm in Brazil. Working together with local farmers, the farms implement forward-looking, sustainable cultivation practices.

The Coffee Barometer shines a light on the current state of sustainability within the global coffee sector. Fifteen of the world’s largest roasters and traders were assessed on three dimensions: transparency, procurement practices, and environmental and climate commitments. Tchibo is included, too.

Deposit instead of packaging waste: Tchibo is the first company in the Austrian retail sector to launch a reusable deposit system for loose coffee beans. This pilot project is being launched in Vienna and Graz in partnership with the reusable packaging specialist circolution.

It highlights where farmers are most vulnerable to climate change and identifies opportunities to strengthen the sector’s future.

For the fourth time now, we are offering "Kahawa Skuli" - the school coffee from Tanzania. Launched in 2017 in collaboration with our partner City Coffee Ltd, the "Tanzania Coffee Clubs" initiative now involves seven schools and over 1,200 young farmers across the Mbeya and Songwe regions.

Under the title "Change and Impact", we are addressing the future viability of coffee: How can we strengthen farmers' economic resilience and prepare them for the consequences of climate change and other crises? We are looking at challenges, but also opportunities and concrete measures.

We are proud to be member of the Coffee Canopy Partnership! By combining high-resolution satellite imagery and AI technology, together we’re identifying deforestation risk, supporting landscape restoration and protecting the livelihoods of millions of smallholder farmers for generations to come.

Two years after its launch, Tchibo’s “Coffee2Stay” programme is having a tangible impact at source in our countries of origin: Already 22,000 farms in nine producing countries have been reached – significantly more than last year. More in our current press release.

Will we still have coffee tomorrow? We discussed this question at the "KLARTEXT" dialogue event in Berlin. The answer, of course, is neither simple nor straightforward. Many dimensions, perspectives, and challenges... We look back on an exciting event with valuable conversations and open dialogues.
